“Google can bring you back 100,000 answers. A Librarian can bring you back the right on” -Neil Gaiman
Homebush Boys High School Library is a dynamic and active learning hub of the school where students can come for both reading enjoyment, study and to assist them in their research endeavours.
A rich variety of materials are provided to support students in their educational, informational and recreational needs. The collection includes over 10,000 titles including English and Maths Textbooks and 13 desktop computers for student access. Laptops are also available for borrowing during designated times throughout the school day. Students also have access to printers, computer resources, including the Internet and a range of fiction and non-fiction databases to assist in the creation of their assessment tasks and class work.
The Library continually seeks to provide new resources with a wide range of both fiction and non-fiction titles added each term. Our digital collections continue to grow too as they also include audiobooks along with E-books. Recommendations from students and staff are always welcome on Oliver. The library staff also work with the Literacy faculty to help build the capacity of students who require help with literacy skills in conjunction with the Literacy Pro program.
Students have access to their school library catalogue through the DET Portal. So, whether students are at home or school they can check on available resources. Digital resources can also be located using the links on the library website. Ms Karas (Teacher-Librarian) can act as a reader advisor, research skills expert, referencing and citations assistance, providing help with printing issues and general IT issues.
Students are able to research, read and explore new ideas in the library before school, recess, and at lunchtime. Homebush Boys High School Library Staff are dedicated to providing members of the school community with a range of services, as well as access to the resources, in a quality learning environment. There are multiple teaching and learning areas, study desks for individual work as well as soft chairs for recreational reading, four meeting rooms for seniors and two classrooms for learning to take place. Library staff are available to support students and staff in their endeavours in the library. Ms Karas is also happy to assist students with developing their information and research skills and creating study plans.
Each year, the library staff endeavour to promote the Premier’s Reading Challenge and Book Week. Historically we have run a variety of competitions centred around literacy for both events. Students enjoy participating in the events the library run as they are accessible for all students across the three stages.
